Vibrasson: listening to the sound environment of fish

The Vibrasson working group, supported within RESAMA, has set up its first sound-recording system in an aquatic animal facility.

Sound recording with a hydrophone in an aquatic animal facility

The Vibrasson working group, supported within RESAMA, has just installed its first sound-recording system in an aquatic animal facility.

The aim is to better characterise the acoustic environment of fish by recording sounds perceived underwater using hydrophones, as well as the general soundscape of the facility.

This first step marks the concrete launch of a collective effort to better understand the sound levels aquatic animals may be exposed to in facilities and to help improve housing and welfare-monitoring practices.

Thank you to the first participating facility for its welcome and contribution to this initiative.
